| Portmanager |
Portmanager insures FreeBSD installed ports accuratly reflect those available in the ports tree. Updating an entire collection of installed ports is now a simple two step process, first update the ports tree with cvsup, then update all installed ports with portmanager.
Portmanager is powerful enough to set your installed ports collection to a prior date. Set cvsup to download from a date in the past and then run portmanager and it will do everything possible to back date all of your installed ports. See testing and design for details.
Managing a large number of installed ports on a FreeBSD system requires too much user intervention. One mistake and the user ends up not being able to build a major port such as KDE or GNOME, simply because one dependency port is out of date. Portmanager automates the process of upgrading and managing installed ports and requires nearly no user intervention when doing so.
